Amicus Terrae Awards

To foster and sustain an ethical bond to the land, Aldo Leopold held that man must have a close, personal relationship with the land:

Harmony with the land is like harmony with a friend.

This perspective is the inspiration for the establishment of the Will County Land Use Department's highest award, Amicus Terrae or Friend of the Land. This honor is reserved for those public servants whose singular or lifetime achievements exemplify a deep commitment to realization of the Land Ethic.
